Why do Somali parents insult themselves

To me.

It's when she's mad and I say "hooyo" and she's like "hoyadaa was"

Technically she's insulting herself, but I interpret it as "don't call my hooyo I'm mad at you leave me alone." The intricacies of the Somali language are fascinating.
O dear lord, that is unique to her, I think. My dear mother could not even say 'shyte' let alone that. No mate, with respect, your dear mother is well out of order.
