Why do some alleged rape victims wait years to report their rape?

You don't report of a missing person years later do you? Or if someone tried to murder you but you were lucky to get away? Or if someone broke into your home or car? Or attempted to break into your home or car? Or simply just suspicious activity?

You call the police immediately.

I honestly think those who claim they were raped years later were not raped but only report their fake rape to the police simply for revenge against the man they had consensual sex with or were in a relationship with. Of course if you report this rape years later, you obviously know the person. You can't report of a rape years later when it comes to a one night stand.

These people are just reporting their broken hearts.

I don't think it has to do with humiliation. If a complete stranger raped someone, that someone would call the police immediately.

These rapes that are reported years later are alleged rapes done by someone they know.

I know someone who was sexually assaulted as a child and I was the first person she told. Reasons: 1) she was in shock, 2) she was ashamed, and 3) she feared being judged, even by her own family ( the accussed was her older cousin). It's a very traumatizing experience and one you won't be able to fully comprehend unless you or someone close to you has been through it or you've worked with victims of abuse.

reporting a rape is a traumatizing experience as well, the police question the victims on every single detail you could possibly imagine sometimes over and over.

Most victims blame themselves regardless if it was a stranger or not so they feel guilt and shame.

It's a different kind of trauma, one where people at best feel pity for you and at worst feel disgust. Whereas any other crime people have nothing but sympathy for you.


With all that said a lot of women are bold faced liars and lie about being raped and not just white women.

No. She was 5 years old and he is a well-respected cousin of hers. She didn't think her parents would believe her.

Some victims never report it. Rape is not seen as a serious crime unless it's a stranger who attacks you in the street. If it's your close friend or ex boyfriend there's always a cloud over the investigation which says maybe it was consensual. How many other crimes are there where the perpetrator can successfully claim you wanted to be harmed?

Murder, thievery and other crimes cannot be compared to sexual crimes.Nobody who has been mugged or had their car stolen has ever been accused of tempting the criminal for stealing their property. Nobody has said to car theft victim that they brought on themselves because their car was "too shiny and new". However historically and even today women who come forward to having been raped have been accused of bringing the crime upon themselves because she "dressed proactively" or acts in a "seducing manner". Even in the bible women who are rapped have to marry their rapist because people see her as being dishonored. Therefore it very difficult for women to come forward, she will gain little benefit from this, which is why I think the statistic of false rape allegations is so low because true rape allegations is very low.
