And What is the purpose of its evolution .The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a group of endogenous cannabinoid receptors located in the mammalian brain and throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems, consisting of neuromodulatory lipids and their receptors. Known as "the body’s own cannabinoid system",[1] the ECS is involved in a variety of physiological processes including appetite, pain-sensation, mood, and memory, and in mediating the psychoactive effects of cannabis.

We have the system for homeostasis. It regulates your internal systems like temperatures, water and even blood ph. At the very least it reduces harm like inflammation. Invertebrates have the same system which is another indicator of common ancestry.

@McD30 but what i meant was that endocannabinoid system is very specific to cannabis meaning that our early ancestors used to smoke that we developed it the endocannabinoid system . and currently it has health benefits to humans .

Cannabis has only been used by humans for a few thousand years but the components that make up the ECS system have existed for hundreds of millions.
