Why does Somali use double vowels

Since Somali is a phonetic language elongated vowels are very common in most words, so I don't understand why they need to write this out instead of using diacratics like literally any other Latin orthography
Can someone shed some light on this I know I'm not the only one getting irked at this shit

Those languages are similar to English in the sense that they are non-phonemic so it isn't used as frequently, but languages that are like Spanish, German and Turkic do use diacratics
