Why is self-hate so pervasive among the Diaspora?

I have never seen an immigrant community with such high levels of self-hatred than the Somali diaspora. You have people claiming to be mixed with other ethnics, people who flat out refuse to even identify themselves as Somali but as some other group, and people who will date and marry anyone and anything that isn't Somali. Just the other day, I saw a guy I haven't seen since we were young kids. I went up to him and greeted him, and he claimed he didn't know who I was or who I was talking about. He claimed to be Eritrean and had nothing to do with Somalis, even though we both knew that was a boldfaced lie.

What can we do to address this self-hatred phenomenon that is sending ripples through the diasporan community?

Somalis are the most proudest I've ever met compare to other minority ethnic groups.

This only applies to the fobs. Those who were brought here very young or were born here are not proud of their cultural background but hate it and hate everything about themselves.

What a surprise. The two HUTU bootyclappers decided to show up and shit on my thread. You all are stains on the royal name of Beesha Sade. I am not a self-hater at all. Putting the carab stuff to the side (which most people in Somalia also believe), I practice the Somali dhaqan more than anyone here, because at it's core the Somali dhaqan is all about qabyalaad. What do you think those old timers do sitting at coffee shops for most hours of the day? They are engaging in qabyalaad and fadhi ku dirir.

I think this is an incredibly important topic that needs to be addressed, don't you agree m'lady? None of my previous posts should detract from the truth I have said in the first post.

Expect s to be so emotional that they can't discuss mature topics in a logically objective manner without getting personal.
