this is exactly what i wondered. i remember when i was home last summer and the tv showed nothing but the so called government officials pilling bariis and other thing in lines and taking pictured with the yemeni refugees. obviously for publicity. some of the refugees were even complaining about how horrible their situation in somaliland is instead of being happy that they are alive.

Simply because we have very old ties with Yemen. Our dervish soldiers went to Yemen & Oman after war, our royals when ever they were defeated, they ran to Yemen since Ifat sultanate. It is very old relations. And Yemen had at one point 1/2 million Somalis refugees.

This could be so and I don't have problems with welcoming refugees fleeing problems but we should also have the same sympathy on our people. At the end of the day a somali from Zaylac and a Somali from dhoobleey are family if we put politics aside. Helping others while neglecting your own people is something somalis are very good at.
Let's call a spade a spade, it's because Isaac view Somalis as a whole as the enemy due to the actions of the siad barre dictatorship. Now the man who was a general in that very army they so much so despise, is leading somaliland, you couldn't make it up.

The first thing is that Somaliland wants these people to be treated as refugees (and not internally displaced people), because refugees get better funding and it serves Somaliland’s wishes to be treated separately. Also as I understand it, the initial problem was that funding was being sent to Mogadishu and not Hargeisa for those arriving at Berbera, so they said they wouldn't accept non lander Somalis in order to force the hand of donors. It worked.
This is 90% wrangling over aid money and Somaliland being treated different by donors, rather than a race issue. It's not that deep.
This is the same issue with the supposed talks between Somaliland and Somalia. They are mostly wrangling over aid money, it's not a serious discussion.
But OP you are right about the arab thing. But that's true for all Muslims everywhere, some more than others, but Somalis are on the whole at the same level, SL is not worst at it than other Somalis.

It is what it is, silaanyo the president of Isaac was a general in siad barre's government so was waran cadde the interior minister, Ali waraabe & many more were part of siad barre's government.
