Wildlife in Somalia

Hard to guess, with as large of a nation as we have there’s plenty of wildlife but I doubt theres many predators left thanks to our nomadic populations. Giraffe, rhinos and elephants all have extremely low numbers due to unchecked and state sponsored poaching from the 80s onwards. Al-Shabbab also decimated large numbers to take advantage of the ivory trade to fund their terror related activities.

I’ve also read of a report that animals are tranquilized and taken to privately run exotic safaris in Kenya. All in all the smaller game is plentiful but the numbers of the big 5 are low. If we clear the south of alshabab and prevent human encroachment, then their numbers will rebound.

There are no lions and giraffes, they are extinct
Cheetahs and tigers are also on their way to extinction, as they are being hunted and sold to the Saudis and Emiratis
