Gaas is an intellectual and not the typical hard-headed ignorant Somali. He tried his best to stop 4.5, but after it became evident that it wasn't going anywhere, he wisely chose to hang up his gloves and not destroy any remaining political capital with a useless fight. Gaas knows what it means to "choose your battles wisely."
@Game 4.5 is outdated and your argument makes no sense. Puntland is headed towards a multiparty system meaning 4.5 will be ditched for district-based elections. It was agreed that 2016 national elections would be elections not selections, but nothing has changed.
BTW, 4.5 was already in use during Garowe 1&2 ( Faroole came into office in 2009). 4.5 was agreed upon in Arta in 2000, a conference Puntland boycotted. At least get your facts straight.
Disliking my comment because I stated facts shows how emotional you are @Game. You want to blame MJs for everything but 4.5 was implemented during a conference MJs boycotted. Explain how Puntland is responsible for this shit?
"Maybe in the next election" is what has been said since Sheikh Sharif was in office. How much longer do we need to wait? This is the very reason I support Puntland's independence.
Fatso and Qoslaaye's strategy is to derail the process and waste time. We have 5 months till the next election in august. I think they should be given one year extention with the sole mandate to implement one man one vote.
Gaas has put his life on the line by vehemently opposing 4.5. If he accepts it now he will lose all credibility and I don't think he's that stupid to support 4.5.
@Game Garowe I & II did not create 4.5 formula, on the contrary it explicitly says the government should drop 4.5 .
@Duchess, the problem is not that 4.5 goes on for another 4 years, but whether agreements signed mean anything at all. Say for example that Gaas agrees to 4.5 but only for another 4 years, what guraantee does Puntland have that 4.5 will not be used after 2020? Absolutlely none.
The International Community signed Garowe I&II and they must not be allowed to perpetuate the signing of treaties in bad faith. Somalia's current system is built upon these treaties and if they are not respected, we do not have a state. Garowe I&II are as clear as can be on this issue, and if Gaas capitualte Puntland's parliament should bring a motion against him and impeach him.
Look at the bottom of the last page, it was signed by the same UN that is now attempting to bring back 4.5.
