One with Albinism and One with Melanism, its just the pigment adequacy between both.
Melanism refers to the fur of animals. It can't be applied to human skin, unless you want to call black haired people (majority of the world) as having ''Melanism''.

Dark skin existed before light skin so it can't be seen as a pathology in the way albinism is viewed.

Nope that's extremely false, it actually refer to the development of the dark-colored pigment melanin in the skin and its appendages that surrounds it like hair, nail and skin. It doesn't determines one's race, species or genus, its simply a condition that happens among certain species mostly Mammals. And it happens mostly in Feline species, for example when the Jaguar gets it he becomes a Panther but though he's still a Melanistic Jaguar who's melanin turned very dark in the skin, hair and rest of the appendages.

I never see Asians or Europeans who have random pitch black people among them like you see with sheep, horses, cats etc. So it is probably not the same phenomenon you see in animals, hence you were misusing the word previously. That black guy would not be referred to as having 'melanism' by his doctor as it doesn't exist in humans like albinism does.

Like I said before, its a 'rare' condition that happens in certain Mammals but also possible in primates even Humans.
