YDNA A-M13 in Somalis?

Have any Somali males received a A-M13 or any A ydna result after taking a dna test. One of the samples in our Somali DNA Peace Project got this result.

I’m not surprised as I’ve seen a Oromo brother who’s mother is Somali with an A but forget which branch.

I read this paternal hablogroup is “concentrated among Khoisan populations in the southwest and Nilotic populations toward the northeast in the Nile Valley.” I’m sure it can be found all over Africa and yfull samples shows a whole range.

There is a very old idea among anthros that Khoisan-like people were once spread all over Africa, this could be a relic of that, haplogroup A is found in Berbers aswell.

Thanks for sharing. One theory is that people migrated from Rift Valley up north towards north east Africa. On yfull there’s a Kenyan A-M13 result that list Rift Valley as their location. I guess time and more test will tell.

It comes from our proto-Nilotic ancestry. Possibly the only Y-DNA HG we really inherited from them as the others are all Ancestral North-African (E-M35 lineages) and West-Asian (T-L208 & J1). A-M13 is common across the Horn (comparable to J1) and is rather prominent among Beta Israels (40%+) and groups like Gedeos:



It's been found in ancient paleolithic and Neolithic genomes in Sudan and is somewhat common among Nilo-Saharan speakers there, if memory serves me right. Somalis do show it but it's very rare. I last counted maybe 3 relatives who seemed pure Somali who carried it among hundreds.

There probably 2 possibilities. Its a flat out rate across all Somalis from our proto-nilote heritage. Or clans that assimilated Ancestorial east Africans on there migration routes peoples likes the khoisan,Omotics,Proto-niolites,Bon so on
