Holstein Friesian cows, the world’s top milk producing breed. They are famed for their high dairy production, averaging 22,530 pounds (10,220 kg) of milk per year. Of this milk, 858 pounds (3.7%) are butterfat and 719 pounds (3.1%) are protein.[5]

Genius of cadaan people. Hundreds of years of selective breeding and you have amazing results like this. Japanese did same thing with waygu cows .

ideally the cows prefer 25-65F so they like cold. Above 80F they start eating less and production is impacted . Not sure how these guys overcome this. Getting cooling seems like it would destroy bottom line

Salute these guys entrepreneurial spirit maybe they will be able to breed with local cattle and get better milk production and climate resistance. Either way learnings will be valuable and I hope learnings are shared across country

This is very good, Somalis need to be weaned off powdered milk and enjoy real dairy. We can have made in Somalia milk, yogurt, ice cream, cheese, etc.

💯 Exactly. Plus who knows what quality powder we get having no fda or quality control. Something even China struggles with is fake powder milk

Somalis should import Fulani cows especially for Somali Kenyan so we can keep expanding without our animal dying bc of flies
I think they are called Boran cow. I asked chatgpt to create table comparing the Boran and European cow above it’s crazy the milk production difference

In terms of ideal cows I would say we need Sahiwal Indian cows. They can produce 10-15L a day, they’re heat tolerant, no fertility issues and their milk only has A2 protein whereas the Holstein produces A1 & A2 proteins. The A1 protein is what causes the lactose intolerance issues and gut problems this is because the Holstein is mutated version of the original cow. Holstein has several health issues including fertility issues. Also they can’t tolerate heat.

Sir, what dairy cows drink in a day, a camel drinks in a week.
Camels are deviant, they like taking the grass from the roots they dig deeper in the ground to yank them, sometimes they don't do it cuz they hungry.

Also i seen camels destroy tree branches. They're a walking environmental hazard.

The Punjabi cattle seems like a good option, they will be imported within few months. And we will see how productive they are.
