Is it true white university students enrolled in advanced degree programs in England have to pay for their tuition while non-whites are more likely to get bursaries that cover the full cost for belonging to a racial minority group? I believe white people are disadvantaged, yes. Thankfully it doesn't happen in my industry.
Many working poor white areas of England also have terrible public transportation and social services from what I remember reading.
I thought you did not believe in discrimination and identity politics? Thought all groups get what they put into the system and there is a meritocracy? Now, all of a sudden you’re engaging in identity politics on behalf of poor white people? Isn’t the lack of education progression in some white working class people due to lifestyle choices or only black people problems caused by lifestyle choices?
As for your question, only a few universities give out bursaries for elite ethnic minority, but that is a very small number and doesn’t make a difference to the education stats of the UK. Anyone can get a uni loan in the UK.White working class especially boys do very poorly in the education system up to the GCSE level. University doesn’t come into the question because many of them aren’t getting enough grades to go to university.
It is normal to see a kid who doesn’t speak English enter the UK and surpass white children who are native English speakers.
Jamaicans had a similar problem, as did Somalis, who are now slowly improving. I don’t think the education system in the UK is any more favourable to a Somali child than a poor white child.
On a personal note, I grew up with many such people (poor English council estate folks) and there wasn’t much incentive to do well in school. A lot of my friends from primary school basically stopped attending by the age of 14 and there parents didn’t make much of it. A few of them became drug addicts and most now work manual labouring jobs like their fathers did. The poor English culture is almost like an alien culture to that of mainstream British culture sometimes. My friends use to drive cars around my family’s estate at the age of 13 and they use to smoke in front of their parents.
