I mean it is funny but I hate having viral tiktoks making fun of them for voting and having anjabis involved somalis are so tacky, if i recorded down south it would sound like ice spice go 'grahhhh'
Why is this generation of Somalis back home so cringey and weird looking? I swear back in the 50s-80s the people back home wore western styles in fashion. They were slim but still looked healthy. Their teeth were straight and white. Basically they were normal.

I honestly think about this a lot, I think its due to diet post colonial Somali society was introduced to high caloric soft carbs like pasta and now western foods and lack of excerise takes its toll, also since there moving less the things that lead to looking better (too long to mention) aren't there anymore
I get that but I swear the fashion still makes no sense. Did you know in fob culture having brown teeth is a sign of beauty? The women who already have nice figures use steroids so that their body is so inflammed they basically look obese. They’re paying money to look weird. Why????????
Why did generations ago with less access to the western world Somalis seem to assimilate to western fashions? I dunno. I’m just disturbed and upset at the fob beauty standard. It’s like a weird AI Bollywood/american/arab/baadiyo beauty standard.
Its associated with money, its the same in west africa too mauritania the standard is lighter and fatter most people back home are gaaco but have iPhones so you see these super weird combos emerge Somali women even in the 80s were etheral now a lot go for the jigglypuff look.
Nowadays many nomads eat white rice with milk and sugar on a daily basis. Livestock numbers have reduced in many places so less meat is consumed. They also eat their sabaayad with pure veg oil and sugar. Add to that multiple cups of tea with lots of sugar, it leads to early teeth loss and not those sharp white teeth you see in old Somali nomad pictures. This is why many people have vitamin deficiencies and acid reflux.
As for fashion, I think it is slowly improving. There was a time when young people didn’t even wear jeans and you are now seeing people with different hairstyles in Somalia. Haircuts look better in some of the videos (than you Ethiopian barbers).
