20 years ago, Abdullahi Yussuf, first TFG president of Somalia passed away

I stopped blaming AY for a while now for the invasion. Its silly to think he is capable of convincing the most powerful country in the world to invade Somalia.

Somalia was on the Bush administration's list of countries to topple so 2006 would happen no matter what. Unfortunately, the idea of an Islamic ran Somalia was hated by the west.

Hero. He had nothing to do with ethiopia entering the country and he spent 5 years in an Ethiopian prison because of his refusal to give them golgodob. Blame the TPLF and Susan Rice not him

he made a big mistake by allowing Ethiopian troops to arrive, that I admit, those that don’t admit what happened in Mogadishu was wrong are delusional. He should have let somalia take it’s normal course of action, 2006 was a setback.
Firstly i dont think it was his choice, Ethiopia would likely invade regardless especially considering extremists with nationalist inclinations like Dahir aweys were a threat and a foe.
On the other if they didnt; leaving the situation alone could always be dangerous with extremists and moderates likely turning against eachother, fights with somali clans and states would lead to turmoil and compound droughts leading to famines and misery.

While it's definitely retarded to say that it was all his fault. But the fact that he allowed them in politicized the invasion and made it qabil against qabil. If they had chosen to invade without his permission. The shock of the situation would have probably unified all of somalia.

Unlikely. ICU was made out of thirteen courts, two of which were extremist (Dahir Aweys and Al-Shabab). The rest were moderate and had a grip on the other two.
One of whom was most trained and driven, and the other happened to be the unofficial leader.

Without support from the public, they wouldn't amount to anything. Remember that during the 2006 invasion, the ICU surrendered but Al-Shabab kept fighting and so garnered the support of the people.

The icu was proven to be a paper tiger, alshabab wasn't, any confrontation I think they would prevail

They would have a tough time convincing Somalis that extremism is the way to go lol. Not even Al-Itihaad was particularly powerful and they caved into peace anyways.

Something even worse occurred as a result, he neither stayed to take responsibility as any leader should or commended their efforts against a foreign enemy (it was dangerous for him to be fair). ICU is worse than AS, so he was a small contributor to the terrorists that went on to kill hundreds of thousands of Somalis. He was the only leader who showed promise, but fell unto the same problem as siad barre, and that is being unable to see the bigger picture.

if he stood with Somalia that day, Ethiopia’s actions that day would be considered bonafide invasion by all Somalis. How can you excuse all those people killed in mogadishu by gaal? Because they’re not from PL? AY is a saviour to in my eyes but like Morgan, he also has a pitfall.

He should’ve let the south do its own thing, putting all that effort into building a government for HAG when PL could’ve reached self sufficiency and relative prosperity much earlier. AUN regardless he was a great leader and a relative of mine on my maternal side.
