As for the Samaritans, they were banned from worshipping on Mount Gerizim by Emperor Justinian, who demolished their temple and built a church on the site. The Samaritans kept trying to worship on the mountain so he built a wall around the mountain to keep them out. The Samaritans rebelled and destroyed the church, so Justinian and the Ghassanids crushed the Samaritans and slaughtered them, selling the survivors into slavery.
Today only a few hundred Samaritans remain, the last few hundred Israelites.
