As an Eritrean, you are absolutely right. Eritrean Christians were originally against independence because the movement was started by Eritrean Muslims in Cairo in the 50s.

The Unionist Party was a party created by Haile Selassie to entice Tigrinya Christians to be pro-unity with Ethiopia saying the Muslims were Pan-Arabists and would bring radical Islam even though they were Marxists/socialists . I dont know of any Habesha Jews in Eritrea to really answer . The Falasha are in Ethiopia. The only Jews we had in large number in Eritrea were Adeni (Yemeni Jews) and they were very cool with the Muslims since both spoke Arabic but this was like the in the 1940s.
