You realise in the pre war period Hitler actually marketed himself as a pacifist.

Both things are true. The reason for war in ww1 and ww2 was because the new unified Germany was by far the most militarist and Industrial country in Europe and soon the world. Germany was a new country and shook the balance of power. It was previously a series of tiny states in central Europe between big Russia and French in the west. That was used and abused by the powers. But since one of the German states, Prussia, conquered the rest and created a single German country. They became the strongest state in Europe and by the turn of the 1900s it was looking like Germany would be the superpower to dominate the century. But alas 2 world wars from the entire world fighting this small country destroyed it.

I was reading about Benito Mussolinia couple weeks back as the average guy does and his views on race was interesting. I think he was pushed to extremism by hitler.
