NOO reallyIt is an Islamic phrase "nacatullahi calayk", which means "I place allah's curse on you". It is actually very severe but the Somalis watered it down to just "nacalaa" which means "curse".

there are too many hidden words. I would have never guessed![]()
really. talaajad makes sense since it's kind of a recent invention. I mean personally my family just says fridge with a very somali accent. The Somali language also has a lot of Arabic-origin words that have been Somalised which does not fit in the loan word list.
For example: Talaajad for fridge and even xanaaq for anger is somalised.
Even Khaniis is somalised.

but xanaaq. really. was there no word for anger in somali before?![]()
that kinda sucks. these are kinda basic emotionsThe thing is that its a very old Arabic word and they do not use it anymore but yeah.
Somalis did not have happiness or anger until the Arabs showed up, poetic in a way.
