Alshabab always cooperates with disaffected and angry warlords and it won't surprise me if he had any hand with this explosion. They haven't confirmed it but they targeted the hotel owner personally because he was Chairman of Mogadishu Chamber of Commerce. This might be linked to the sacking of the Mayor for corruption allegations after all.

The people who attacked the hotel did so because they hate Mogadishu. They mentioned the pettiest reasons for bombing including seeing a woman who wasn't wearing a bra - even though they banned bras a few years ago.
