The British ceded the Ogaden and the Hawd region to Ethiopia in 1948 & 1954, despite earlier promises to the Somalis. This is an established fact.
The British also refused to accept the results of the NFD referendum and similarly denied Somalis the right of self determination. This is again common knowledge.
The fact remains that those who fought against the British occupation and subsequently permanent dismemberment of Somali territory will always be the moral superiors to those who fought under the British flag, whose recompense in this life was abject betrayal and humiliation, and in the next, hellfire.
Those who fought for the freedom of all Somalis against the British imperial machine were rewarded in this life with honor, and to those who lost their lives fi sabiililaah, the highest rank of paradise amongst the prophets and messengers.

I used to have the same views as you, but after research I’ve concluded that the Mad Mullah was nothing more than a lunatic who went insane after surgery. Reading how he killed all the women and children in Las Qorey after capturing its fort, burning 43 villages on the way to Berbera, taking the wives of all the tribes who didn’t join him, looting everybody who didn’t join him(even if they didn’t join the British), 1/3rd of Somaliland’s population died during those 20 years, killing his own wife and nephew, denounced from his own mentor Muhammad Saleh from Mecca, killing the famous scholar Uways al-Barawi. The list is endless. The guy used to castrate anybody who deserted, kill their families, he even abandoned his own children and wives after Taleh fort was destroyed.
The insane lunatic even had horses trample over the dead corpse of the chief of Muhammad Zubeyr after taking all of their livestock, he killed the chief of Dhulbahante and took the entire livestock of some sections in Reer Hawd. He was only after his own personal ambitions.

In all guerrilla movements, traitors must be taught the cost of betrayal. It is ugly but ultimately necessary in war. The converse would be to totally submit.
I cannot and will not judge the Sayid for doing what he had to.
If anything, the hated imperialist's actions in the following decades vindicated the Sayid and propelled him to the forefront of Somali heroes.
He even sacrificed his own family for the cause. Subhanallah, how many leaders would kill their own family members.
