All Somali online spaces have been hijacked by troll accounts and their rhetoric, which have become synonymous with our online ethnic reputation

whilst this is true, across all statistics available, it seems that Somalis past a certain age range tend to be doing MUCH MUCH better than the ones that were born/came over in the early 90s directly after western migration. I think once we have that established and build more for the community it will be easier to get the ones struggling up on their feet, hopefully it helps dull whatever nonsense culture is spreading

It's not just Somalis, all online spaces has been become like that and it involves all types of ethnic/racial/national and religious groups. Look outside and you will see it's a general trend how extreme vulgar, hate and troll driven it has become.

Even Arab online spaces, i have come to find out their troll accounts say to most unhinged stuff to eachother and constantly at war. Twitter , comment sections are just a general cesspool nowadays
See:

We are not really in charge of these social media platforms, so we cannot we really do anything about it

All you can do is control your own interactions and what you consume. If you don't like incel , anti-somali , iyo troll or whatever just don't look at it , simple as that.

Some people will always mindlessly follow societal trends and then they will die out in popularity and be replaced with something else. I believe the same applies here.

So don't stress it , just focus on things that actually matters.
I agree that this subculture exists largely in many different communities, and some somalis don't understand that we aren't unique in this nastiness

however the degree and public outreach of our sub commmunities are unprecedented, that's the difference. I'd say only FBA/ADOS black american subculture comes close to having tangible mainstream visibility of a troll/nationalist subculture as the somali incel one

I don't think it has anything to do with Somalis specifically really, i don't think it's a sub culture either. It's just societal online trends hat a diverse group of people partake in

It has everything to do with the nature of social media how its designed, how it functions and how it incentives usage of it.

Look through this thread discussion where i go more deeper into it and break it down.

I think if the situation isn't remedied soon, then society in general will devolve into two groups. Those who use social media and those that do not use it. And those who use social media are just going to be a lot of a-social crazies, depressed, anxious etc whereas the ones that don't use it are going to be more normal and adjusted.

I agree it will get better as the community gets older. These bums still aren't going a way anytime soon though.

In 20-30 the children of Gen Z and millennials will be a lot more westernized and privileged than us. They most likely won't have a major incel issue like what we have now.

Yeah… I work part-time as a teacher’s assistant at a school with a pretty decent Somali population, and the shift in attitudes towards them has been shocking. Last year, most kids didn’t even know about Somalia or Somali people, but now, suddenly, I’m hearing so many racist jokes targeted at Somali students—things like calling them 'aliens' or mocking their facial features. It’s gotten so bad that some Somali kids have even had to switch schools because of the bullying, and yet the administration doesn’t seem to take it seriously. I do my best to stand up for them whenever I see this happening, but as a part-time TA without much authority, there’s only so much I can do
Where are you from ?

The problem is Somali parents don't even know how to parent they hit their kids, prevent them from having proper socialisation while they're propped on the couch asking the kids to make them shaax, its our responsibility as the kids of the diaspora who are entering our 20s and 30s to tackle this and make a safer space for our young ones. As for the hate, we need to caral people like yusuf7n and that johnny Somali guy ASAP these people went viral specifically associating our name with the dirt. Somalis have a long long way to go before we can relax.

Somalis can be found in Minnesota's neighboring states.

The true somalis living in irrelevant states are the ones in Kansas, Missouri, and Utah.
