That's not rape culture. There is a difference between systematic, culturally accepted behaviors and crimes committed in the context of war or political instability.

"Rape culture" refers to a society where sexual violence is normalized, tolerated, or excused in everyday life.

In Somalia, while sexual violence does occur especially in conflict zones it is not widely accepted or encouraged by the general culture. In fact, Somali social norms, Islamic teachings, and traditional values strongly condemn such acts.

The existence of sexual violence in wartime or political strife is a tragic reality in many conflict-affected regions, but that alone does not define a society as having a "rape culture." A rape culture would involve widespread victim-blaming, a lack of legal consequences for perpetrators, and societal indifference to sexual violence in everyday life.

The widespread outrage over incidents like the Anfac case (regardless if it's true or not) shows that Somali society does not tolerate or normalize such acts. While law enforcement and institutional responses may be weak due to instability, this is not the same as cultural acceptance.
Rape is condemned in most cultures. Rape is normalised in somalia, not in a "it's fine" kind of way, but in a "what can we do?" Kind of way. Unless you're from an important qabiil, have connections to the police, you're case is not seeing court. Rape culture exists in all countries, even ones that have stable institutions like the UK. The amount of underreported cases here is astronomical. The amount of shaming, victim-blaming BS rape victims go through in Somalia and in the rest of the world is a part of rape culture. Also, there's definitely culture of muslims, who are misguided, who treat rape victims like "damaged goods" or believe that they were sinful for losing their virtue before marriage.

There are many cases that shows women are truly involved. For example the killed an oday from mudug because he was from a rivalry clan. Or last year in december they chopped with their men 6 sna soldiers because they were from a rivalry clan too. I mentioned a fee of them but there are more. And if they don’t fight then they encourage their men to commit these crimes. Many men and women are not innocent in somalia. Do you really believe that men are the only ones who were negatively impacted by 30+ years of war??
Somali women follow the somali men. It's a patriachal society. If men engage in start and engage clan wars, why would you think somali women would sit idly by? Their told to help their men in their endavours like a good wife/female relative. I've heard some say its shameful for women to defy their men as per the Quran. If men decided to stop engaging in qabalayad and create an orderly society, women would follow. Acting like a few cases is comparable to the systemic downfall of somalia is dumb.

Im so confused, wheres the actual proof the case is fake . Everyones running with different stories . Yall said the video is from 2019 in ethiopia wheres the proof of that?? And dont say he / she said its from ethiopia, we need actual proof

Rape does occur but we don’t have a rape culture, do you even know the meaning of “ culture "
We do indeed have a rape culture. Every country has a rape culture. Somalis are not unique. Victim-blaming, -shaming, corrupt institutions, systemic discrimination as per qabiil etc.

Not true at all. It is not accepted or even normalized. Rape is openly condemned and outside war time situations it is rare.

A qoute from a study written by a prominent female Somali sociologist that have studied this "Cawo Mohamed Abdi"
Convergence of Civil War and the Religious Right: Reimagining Somali Women

Rape in Somali culture is very stigmatizing. Prior to the war it was rare and severely condemned, making group or clan relations very tense when it occurred. Women's virginity was highly valued, and violating their honor was considered scandalous.

Another thing i said "While law enforcement and institutional responses may be weak due to political instability, this is not the same as cultural acceptance" is also true.

The fact that yall are using the outrage over the Anfac story as evidence of a rape culture or is self contradictory to me because it proves the opposite. There is all this outrage, anger, reporting and demand for accountability "Justice" because its not accepted or normalized by the wider Somali society.

This is the thing with Somalis we don't silence or hide problems or incidents that happen or burry them, that's why they are out in the open like that, unlike other communities were it is hidden and they shy away from speaking about it or demand accountability.

Anyways women/girls get raped during clan wars. You havent denied tht so oh well.

Wartime sexual violence occurs in every part of the world as weapon of war during armed political conflicts.

Went through it in a different thread:
It's an unfortunate and disgusting reality of warfare . Sexual violence is often understood as a weapon of war along with mutilation.

The Devastating Use of Sexual Violence as a Weapon of War

Sometimes rape is a weapon of war. This chapter looks at rape and other forms of sexual violence that form a tactic and strategy of war and examines how it relates to the politico-economic conditions of conflict and the motives of perpetrators

there is an increased understanding that rape—the forced vaginal, anal, or oral penetration of either a male or a female with either a person or an object—is used as a strategic and systematic tactic during armed conflict

Most recent examples happening in Haiti, Ethiopia and Ukraine. What the Russians are doing to Ukrainians is absolutely reprehensible and this is the reason why ICC issued arrest warrants against them. The Ukrainians are bringing public attention for support to stop it.
Rape and other forms of sexual violence have been pervasive in conflicts throughout history. This fall, three UN reports highlight the prevalence of these atrocities in Ukraine, Haiti, and Ethiopia.

Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine

Allegations of rape and sexual violence in Ukraine have been numerous since Russian troops invaded Ukraine in February 2022, and do not appear to be subsiding. A report released on October 18 examined human rights violations that took place in the first two months of the 2022 war in Ukraine. The United Nations found that Russian forces have committed the "vast majority" of human rights violations during the conflict. These crimes include the widespread perpetration of rape and sexual violence. Victims of sexual violence range in age from four to eighty-years-old. The report details a four-year-old child being forced to perform oral sex on a Russian soldier. Other documented violence includes gang rape and forcing family members to watch while their children and mothers were sexually assaulted. Most of the cases of sexual violence also qualify as torture or cruel or inhumane treatment.

But sexual violence is not an everyday normality or socially accepted occurrence.
