It is, we’ve been eating it for at least a century and all eat it. If you want to go down that route: Shidni isn’t Somali food, Sabayad isn’t Somali food, Suqaar isnt Somali food let’s continue lol.

If people want to go down the route of cultural puritanical beliefs then the jokes will be on us ultimately.
Part of Somali cuisine but it’s not just Somali food :kanyeshrug: It belongs to many different cultures and that’s ok.Food is food the diversity of our dishes reflects on our strong history it’s something to be proud of

I think there is nothing wrong with taking aspects of foreign cultures, as long as you admit that it is borrowed. I have noticed this hyprocrisy in Christian African Countries were they hyper focus on Somali and Sudan to see the Arab influences on our cultures, but complete ignore the European, Arab and even East African influence on their own clothes. They are very hypocritical 🙄. Wearing an abaya is bad but speaking English or French as your official langauge is okay. Miss me with that.

Cambuulo iyo bun is had after quransaars and other gatherings. Are oromos claiming this too?
Is that what it is? I went to a funeral and they had this, I don’t think there was cambulo but I asked what the ceremony was and apparently it’s a Sufi tradition.

See the Instagram video I was replying to, it’s some borana women in guuntino parading around with bun in saliid. Even the bowls that they’re using are Somali lol

Most Somalis don’t eat Shidni, but sambus is of gulf origin and eaten by the entire Islamic world. Most ajanabis associate it with Indians.

I’ve never heard nor seen Somalis claim that we were not influenced by the thousands of years of trade with the majority of the world. In fact it’s very Overemphasized!

No offence sis but I noticed you only mentioned things that are of eastern origin? Like you never mentioned how our food is also influenced by other Africans as well. You would never have a go at Turkish people being proud of their coffee and tell them well actually it’s Ethiopian. It’s only Africans who have to ‘admit’ influence from elsewhere.
It’s like we are begging them to accept us when in reality everything originated from Africa
