It was more to do with tribal allegiance and ethnic loyalty rather than the sort of racism we experience today based on skin colour. Like I mentioned in another thread, those Arabs at the time of our prophet (pbuh) were on the whole darker in complexion according to all the sources we read about them and more than likely had a lot of Natufian like ancestry without as much of the northern ancestries prevalent in modern Arabs. Heck modern Saudis are still quite dark.

It really will be interesting when they finally get a full genome on ancient western Gulf Arabs (they have none so far due to the climate being unsuitable). It would be hilarious if they turned out to be mainly Natufian with the rest of their ancestry being some sort of East African. What will all the racists say? SMH, I would not be surprised if this was the case.

I doubt the descriptions of the Prophet (pbuh) has anything to do with whiteness like we perceive it, but instead has to be considered in context with his community.

The northern Medina clans were often described as very dark, so it is unlikely that all Hejazi clans were lighter in complexion. The prophets grandfather Abdul Muttalib's mother was from medina of the Khazraj clan.

The Adnani clans or the descendants of Ismail also descend from roaming Qahtani clans that came from Yemen and settled by his mother Hajira in Mecca. We have no idea what autosomal ancestry these clans had, but it would not be out of the question to speculate they were mainly Natufian and East African.
