Basic Income To Become a Reality?

“Finland has become the first country in Europe to pay its unemployed citizens an unconditional monthly sum, in a social experiment that will be watched around the world amid gathering interest in the idea of a universal basic income.

Under the two-year, nationwide pilot scheme, which began on 1 January, 2,000 unemployed Finns aged 25 to 58 will receive a guaranteed sum of €560 (£475). The income will replace their existing social benefits and will be paid even if they find work.

Kela, Finland’s social security body, said the trial aimed to cut red tape, poverty and above all unemployment, which stands in the Nordic country at 8.1%. The present system can discourage jobless people from working since even low earnings trigger a big cut in benefits. “

What I would do to be a part of that study group :wow1:

Any thoughts, die hard capitalists? @VixR @Amun @TheLibertarianQuiche

They have it in gulf countries, maybe one day we will have similar programs for Somalis mothers and children in back home.

No, it's never going to be possible or work. There will be makers and takers as there is today. The United States can't even afford their current welfare system without printing more money or raising taxes which they won't do as it would be negative to American businesses.

We already see what welfare does to certain people. If basic incomes means "livable" something like $2,000 a month per person, what would motivate society to do better even if this is affordable? Wouldn't this increase more immigrants coming over, thus increase the taxation and distribution of wealth?

Free market capitalism works because it's voluntary and you must bring value to the world. As the saying goes "money doesn't grow on trees" and nothing is "free" - the money has to come from somewhere? Who is that? The more productive citizens.

If it will make us anything like the gulf Arabs then I don't want nothing to do with it. They (khaleejis) barely work and are among the most laziest gluttons I have ever seen
:camby:

I'm ok with mothers and children getting it though the rest can get off their heiney

Somaalida Finland markaasina way u dhaman laheed rip iyagu oo 0% unemployment rate aad arki z3zrULC crime would go up, ilmaha qasaaro miraan :icon e sad:

No such a thing as a free lunch. For this program to truly work, the gov will need to impose a compulsory volunteer hours to receive money, or else Somalis in Scandinavia will pursue their favorite hobby, kufsi, full-time.

Dumb idea. It's been done before and proven to not work. Unaffordable.

If you don't work you should starve and your kids taken away from you. Only the handicapped and sick and old should be given any government income.

I wish there was an unlike button. May you please break it down to me how or why you think this is a dumb idea? Merci

Quintessentially negroid: Your problem?
@McLovin I'm unapologetically left-wing to the bone. However, this shouldn't be applied ever in Somalia.

Somalis are lazy enough in Somalia: sitting around at cafes calling 100 relatives a day for shaxaad while refusing job offers because of the shaxaad money they get.

Somalia needs free universal healthcare and free universal education but that's all they should get.

No dole in Somalia, no government housing and definitely no baby bonuses.

The ppl I see advocating for this are always the type who'd rather sit around smoke pot and game than actually contribute something to the species. I do think this kinda thing is inevitable though, we're eventually gonna reach a point in the west (maybe 30-40 yrs) and the rest of the world (50-70 yrs) where technology produces more than we could and humans become irrelevant in many industries (agriculture, transportation, production, mining, warfare). Living on basic is prob gonna be looked down upon and a pretty meager life, so I'm gonna keep working bc it brings meaning to my life and I'm not a deadbeat.

What about unemployed university graduates that are locked out of a job. This is a huge issue in Europe (Phénomène Tanguy) where young people are refused jobs despite being over-qualified because they lack experience. No one wants to train them and many can't move back to their parents house which tiny enough and will be too cramped with their partners and possibly children.

Its not unaffordable if you're super-wealthy like Scandinavia. Its just that America have been fucking themselves over with conservatism and 'muh 2nd Amendment'.

Anyone can get a job.

They should go apply at McDonald's

It's not like Finland already doesn't have a welfare system.
If people are discouraged by their low earnings and decide to stay jobless because their benefits gets cut then the whole thing is counterproductive
A basic income might give people the chance to further educate themselves or try out other jobs

Don't know why I didn't see this until now. I'm wholly against it as a concept, but I'll hold off on expanding on it later when I'm more awake.
