So I'm exposing myself here. I've thought of trying to just talk Somali to my hooyo

Cant imagine the cringe to talk a european language with your parenfs

I'd suggest watching some Somali news channels as it will help improve both your vocabulary and grammar. If you get stuck just look up the word in a somali-english dictionary. The BBC radio Somalia news segments is a good place to start
