He came in 2006 so he probably travelled to fight the Ethiopians who were invading Somalia at the time. There was another AS fighter who travelled from America for the same purpose. He was a revert who got radicalised online and joined AS to "defend Muslims (Somalis) against the kafir invaders (Ethiopians)", VICE did a documentary on him.
