The UK will never be like Spain or Italy just to give you one example for AI alone it’s in third place after USA and China, because it combines world-class talent, top universities. The UK is a global leader in finance, education, creative industries, law, healthcare, sustainability, cybersecurity, its strong institutions, innovation, and global influence keep it ahead in multiple sectors.

London and the British elite will probably always be a highly relevant component of the global economy but the rest of the UK's slowly going to hell by the looks of it. Deindustrialization, the US buying the place's economy and privatization have been no joke. Place is on its way to becoming a terribly unequal hellscape by the looks of it. Good for 1-10% or so of Britons but for the rest...

Canadas Protectionism made it difficult for us companies to buy up there companies

The downside is that Canadian companies now charge you ridicule prices cause they know there is no competition

Rember blackberry ? It got departed by apple on the global market cause they refuse to innovate and got to complacent

@Shimbiris what i find so funny is the Brit’s have managed to do the impossible they did massive tax cuts for the wealthy and sold of all there state owned assets to foreigners yet lack of investment and capital means there behind in tech and have failed to produce any game changing companies at the same time somehow the tax burden is the highest it’s been since 1948

US pumps out world dominating companies like it’s nothing while having a similar corporate tax rate as the U.K. my main point is after 2008 something is dangerously wrong with the U.K.and really in general Euro economy was it austerity or something else ?

The future of the tech game will be decided in US and Asia

Nah bro even Paris surpassed Londons ftse 100 it dethroned London as europes major financial hub. Capital is leaving rapidly, I’ve seen like 20 vids saying how bleak the UK economy is. Combined with virtually no employment prospects even in London (where there’s a massive over qualification crisis) my co worker when I was working in a suit shop as a teen was a qualified lawyer. That’s how bad it is bruh and that was 3 years ago

@Ashraf can you give me a recap on some of the mistakes the tories made

I heard austerity did a lot of damage is that true ?
Yeah following the financial crash David Cameron’s gov (tories) enacted the harshest austerity measures across the g7. Instead of following a moderate plan like the US using government spending to stimulate growth they just started cutting everything. This gutted a lot of things but the worst thing they did was cut funding to the NHS. Almost £40 billion up until now which is why they wanna privatise it( saying it doesn’t work after draining its funding). There’s a good documentary by John pilger on it titled- The war on the NHS- . They gave major tax cuts to the rich and implemented a non dom status allowing rich people living here from foreign nations to not be taxed, they increased national debt like crazy, productivity as a result of all their measures is the lowest in the g7. We haven’t had wage growth in over twenty years, people were actually better off financially twenty years ago than now, cost of living has skyrocketed and London is the most expensive capital to live in, in the entire world. Even more than New York.
Spending cuts, tax cuts, reatrded economic policy= gradual destruction of public services and society. Oh and the discontent of Tory led economic policy led to us leaving the EU which practically killed British business and industry. No more free access to a market of almost 400 million, what retards. It drove up business costs and small companies were unable to compete do a lot went bust, and because we left the EU without a deal the uncertainty led to massive capital flight. COVID was the final nail in the coffin, it’s actually insane how it all turned out I couldn’t think of a worse scenario. 2008 financial crash started the decline, incompetent economic policy sustained it, then we left the EU and COVID happened + the oil surge due to the Russo Ukrainian war. The past decade and a half destroyed the economy with no economic deal with the US or the EU or even CANZUK. In summary 2008 financial crash+ BREXIT+ COVID+ Ukraine war = fucked

The EU is the worlds largest economic bloc not even NAFTA can compare what sucks is the Brit’s had special status and special privileges

I always thought the one thing special about London was its status as the worlds financial capital don’t thatcher gut everything outside of the city too you telling me that changed ?

China is a much better example of stimulus the US under Obama just borrowed a shit ton of money when interest rates were low so they could bail out the property market , the car business and Wall Street

There’s a stereotype that the UK is a third world country attached to London. All the opportunities jobs and everything is in London, wealth is heavily concentrated in the capital more than anywhere else I’d argue. Thatcher gutted the midlands and the north when she moved the uk towards a service economy instead of a manufacturing one like Germany. Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool all used to be big capital hubs until thatcher destroyed it. The “dirty” north isn’t much better off either. Fun fact the UK is the most unequal county in Europe, so much so EU used to release them funds to combat it.
