Look at their performance over the past couple of years. Somaliland's currency has inflated a lot more despite that there wasn't any control on Somalia's one. It shows that investors have no confidence whatsoever in Somaliland's government.

SLS has been stable at around 5000-7000 to 1 USD for a decade now. SLGov has also very little control over the currency due to it's own sheer incompetence.

It can work but the economy needs to get on track so people have faith in the money. It I just paper after all and collective belief in its worth will make it viable. That will take time.

God help us if Mogadishu starts printing money, it will mean immediate and total dollarization of the entire economy plunging millions deeper into poverty.
This and the removal of the weapons import ban are two things that would destroy what ever stability Somalia has regained sine 1991.
