If you look at a city like London the influence of drill has been profound. Drills specific obsession with drill rappers having to have stabbed or shot people to be taken seriously makes it unique compared to other rap sub genres. In the Somali community, drill has transformed the local gangs to an extent areas who never had issues in the past start warring with each other to “score points” or to gain traction. Areas who never had gang activity in the past have suddenly spawned drill sets and are now “active”. The other difference with drill to other rap sub genres is the specific focus on rapping about and naming incidents in local areas where people have been humiliated, injured, or even killed. This leads to tit for tats which are then posted and boasted on social media. In the UK context, you now have Kids of 15-16 who may stabbed up to 10 people by that age. In the past, a gang member of that age would have done a one or two to gain respect, and any further violence was calculated not just for “scoring points”.

There is a level of xoolinimo involved in drill violence which previous criminals wouldn’t even think of doing. I know of Somali yutes who tried to enter a muxaadaro and there was another case where a guy stabbed another guy coming out of Jummah. I am hearing some UK xoolo deportees have now taken back to Denmark.

People are started to be prosecuted for murders nowadays using their own lyrics as evidence because xoolos vividly describe murders they have committed:
