What I don't get is how Eritrea with a population of 2 million in the 90s was able to defeat the Ethiopians, Ogaden(clan) alone have a larger population.
keep in mind that,
1. eritrea fought for 30+ years.
2. eritrea trained and worked with various rebel groups within ethiopia too, particularly the tplf in neighboring tigray.
3. the eplf of eritrea united a diverse society and had support from all over, for the most part, and wasn't divided along clan lines (if ONLF turned into SNLF, it may have fared better).
4. Ethiopia was also fighting many other rebels at the same time, all varying in strength of course, but it still required the govt to use up manpower, resources, etc, throughout the country while fighting in eritrea at the same time, etc.
