That's one thing you are right about the not-on-the-deen Somalis would only celebrate New years, Haloween and Boxing day. Growing up we would go on a family day out on new years eve to the city centre and see the Big Ben strike 00:00 plus all the fireworks displays. On haloween Hooyo would always have sweets for the ajnabi children knocking on our door to trick-or-treat. On Boxing day we we would would go family shopping day to the mall for the Boxing day deals.
But Somalis would draw the line at Christmas.

Right now alhamdulliah Eid and Ramadhan are when my family go all out for celebrating, I dont celebrate anything else consistently, we have meals and events randomly with my family or to celebrate graduations etc to build memories and thats enough for us, alhamdulliah my parents never instilled an inferiority complex in my siblings and me so we dont yearn to copy west regardless, despite having a European mother

How strange. I know Christmas is very commercialised now but it is still so intertwined with Christianity. It's their defining holiday. This is like a non-Jewish person celebrating Hannukah or a non-Muslim celebrating Eid.
