Somalis should know better than praise Atatürk the Scoundrel.
Without Ataturk modern day Turkey would have been like any other middleeastern shithole (Iran), everyone loves that guy even those Islamists. He was undeniably one of the greatest muslim leader in contemporary Islamic history.

Oh wow, you really believe that don't you?

If only you knew that he was a hardened secularist that banned Hijab, the Qur'an, Adhan, and many other things. If only you knew that he was the one that ended the Caliphate. If only you knew sxb, if only you knew.

Greatest Muslim leader?

You've got to be kidding me. Even a lowly peasant from the steppe regions of Bilad Al Turk is better than him.

Ataturk didn’t end the caliphate, the allies won the war and conquered the Ottomans and were planning on dividing modern day Turkey between Greece, Armenia, France, Russia and the British. Even before that, the Young Turks defeated the last caliph who held power, the rest that came after were simply stooges or puppets. Ataturk may have banned the hijab etc, there is no denying that. But he saved Turkey from colonization and built it into a modern nation state. There wouldn’t even be a Turkey if it weren’t for him.

My muslim Turk friend told me that Ataturk successfully turkified Islam in Turkey to distance themselves from Arabs, the adhan was in Turkish, Quran printed in Turkish, not a single Arabic word in the masjid say for Allah and Mohamed PBUH. He kept religion private, besides Turks weren't that religious to begin with. The Ottomans were liberal by Islamic standards, gays flourished, Conversions were consensual and natives were spared of rape in their empire.

He was the one who abolished the Caliphate on 3rd March 1924, it was the Sultanate that was abolished before hand. This is what he said about abolishing the Calipahte:

"The religion of Islam will be elevated if it will cease to be a political instrument, as had been the case in the past."

Yes, he may have saved Turkey from colonisation, but at what moral and spiritual cost?

They were religious, the Tanzimat reforms in the 19th century, made every vice legal. It was the reforms that ultimately, destroyed the Ottomans from within.

There Caliphate ceased to exist after the Young Turks took power. They become puppets just like monarchy’s today and held no power, for the Young Turks and even the British. It died a long time ago, Ataturk just performed the funeral.
