Consumerism.

I feel like, as women, we’re often drawn into fast fashion and easily influenced by trends. We’ve all seen how the obsession for 2024 started with the pashmina hijab trend, and now everyone’s into Vela scarves and abaya/wrap-around coats. But are we really looking at the material content? Let’s not get tricked by influencers and end up buying 100% polyester coats. They won’t last and you’ll freeze.

When it comes to Western clothing, there’s a lot more variety at different price points for good quality stuff. Like, if you want 100% wool at a decent price, you’ve got Uniqlo, and if you want to splurge, there’s Max Mara. But with modest fashion brands, it’s the complete opposite. There’s barely any variety, prices are high, and the materials don’t even reflect that.

So, don’t fall for it & always check the material composition before buying! Btw not all polyester is bad I’m just referring to it being the majority in wool coats/jumpers.

It's a struggle finding a belted wood coat that isn't polyester, at this point I might buy a wool blend because winter baa ii dili doona

Try checking out &otherstories, cos, Abercrombie, and potentially weekday. I’ve seen some from there, but they are mostly wool blends. I bought my Uniqlo puffer ages ago, before the trend, and I cringe now since everyone wears it. I don’t want to look like a child.
