They eventually will but not for a long while. No one is immune from societal change; FGM is slowly becoming eradicated and is looked down upon by many even though it's a very old deeply rooted tradition. Who would have thought when just a few years ago vagina talk was totally off limits?

Also, have you seen how liberal the once religious Somalis in the diaspora have become? There is a lot of unmarried sex going on in Somalia today, probably as common as Westerners. There's also an increase in alcohol consumption (like before the war). People evolve in the way they think and see things, especially with internet access improving over there. The internet is your biggest enemy. I can also bet you anything Al Shabab and Sunni extremism is turning some Somalis over there searching for something else.

Change is slow but it'll eventually happen and it'll hit you in your big foreheaded face.

The tiny Somali ethnic group that is half the size of Tokyo already has two countries. The Kurds and the Oromos and the Yoruba and the Uyghur and other much larger ethnic groups don't have their own countries so why should a tiny ethnic group get to have 3 or 4 or 5 or 10 countries?

If Puntland or Somaliland ever get independence, there will be more separatist groups lobbying and fighting for their own country.

Either unite your tiny ethnic group or give your UN seat up to some other well deserved people.

Why should one ethnic group with the same culture and religion split into ten different countries? There's literally no logical reason behind it. Splitting up the rich resources of the country (Oil in puntland, Agricultural land in the South, the gulf of Aden in Somaliland) only makes each region individually poorer in the end. And the fifteen different armies in the country would be much stronger under one unified army of Somalia. I simply don't understand you people.

United federal Somalia has never worked and in my opinion never will. The British left the smaller Gulf nations because they could no longer afford to rule them and they even refused the Arabs offer that they will pay the full cost of administering their land lol. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the rest were all separate entities that became independent but they decided to unite as one. The Arab countries are a different story. You can't compare them with Somalis today.

No amount of oil money can offset lack of manpower. Somalia has around 10 million population compared to Ethiopia's 94 million and Kenya's 44 million. If we split up, there is just no way we can put up any kind of resistance to any foreign incursions whatsoever.

Somalia would be a different region if it had 4 different djiboutis. The low population would bring Etheeeb and peace. Nobody would beat their chest and Somalis could travel anywhere they wish. Managing less people with lower populations can help bridge the gap to development.

I know it's a big "What IF" question but no insurgency in human history has ended with complete military victory over them. You have to sit down with them and come to a political settlement at some point. At least if historical precedent is anything to go by.

Doesn't seem like they are interested in any deals. I would imagine if enough damage is done to them they will be forced to sit down and negotiate. That should be the goal, weaken them to the point of desperation, then sit down and make a deal.

I don't think they will back down on the Shariah demand though. I don't know if the government will accept it from them but i hope they do. Nothing wrong with our religion. It's perfect. We should stop trying to please the west.
