Somali parents are under the illusion that it changes you it’s a horrible idea to send your kid to go to dugsi with teens who should be locked up

So true. You’d find kids in dhaqan celis who are just going thru teenage angst and being misunderstood being sent back home along with kids who are literal psychopaths and upcoming career criminals who should be either sent to prison or get the electric chair

I lived back home for 1.5 years. I had a real good experience tbh. Used to get free stuff and lacag from family members Got invited to a lot of cultural events and learned a lot of trades. One Unc gave me a free cow but my Aabo said no. I met lots of wonderful people. Made me succeed when I came back home. But the best thing was food and candy back home I miss it.

I don't think it could be even called dhaqan celis, I was like around 10 and I was actually really excited to go. My mom told us one day we were moving to Kenya for a couple months (who moves their family from one end of the planet to the other for 3 months lol, 10yr old me should've put two and two together)

I would sit at our family computer almost every other day for weeks and google Kenya and Nairobi. Stereotypically, photos of safaris and the wildlife would come up and for some odd reason I thought I would have the Kenyan savannah as my backyard with the elephants and all (was I the brightest kid? maybe not)
....and my parents would egg me on too, I would show them pictures of some national park in Kenya and they would be like 'yes hooyo/aabo, that is where we are going"

...... I did not go on any safari, not one.

Imagine my shock when I started full time dugsi.

Despite everything, I liked and still miss my time in Kenya and the many people I met there - might just be the usual childhood nostalgia.
Hopefully you can look back some time in the future and feel like you enjoyed your time, even if it is just by a little.

The American and Swedish Somalis were the one who were always forming gangs got to a point were the Habaryar started begging there parents to send them back

From stabbing kids they had arguments with to handing out alcohol at dugsi these guys were demons

I only go 5 days a week on fridays i go to the beach i also go to restaurants

how is the school? do they beat you for messing up or is that a thing of the past?

I had an amazing time, but my mum never left she was with me the whole time. I met great people and got closer with my family. The only downside was that when I went to “school” I was put in an English and maths class with 20 year olds at 9 years old. They would stare at me sm it was the most awkward experience of my life

Pointless and when parents send their kids there without them, that is a gross violation of parenting and tantamount to abuse.

If you’re serious about teaching your children Islamic values and values of humbleness and hard work, shift your whole family and live in the meey for a few months since there is a sense of community, trust and your children seeing a whole new world. Let them see the real Somalia. Let them learn to be grateful for what they have.
