PL soldiers should be praised and honoured for their successes against the khawarij in the north BUT you can't compare Daacish with Alkabaab. Daacish is dangerous but in Somalia they are just a couple of hundred max fanatics who have been hiding in the mountains for years. Daacish doesn't have anything near the level of military equipment, organization, intelligence structure etc that Alkabaab has in the south. Beating Alkabaab is 10 times more difficult than beating Daacish, the two situations are not even comparable. Just to be clear I'm not defending HSM , I never liked the guy

The same AlShabab that attacked Puntland multiple times, including large scale attacks from multiple locations. The 2016 attack. They also had cells operating in our cities and towns. It is not about AlShabab being stronger, it is about corrupt leadership, mooryaanimo and division.

Alkabaab is beloved in the south because the politicians, businessmen and leaders are all crooks that are never satiated. Their recent resurgence is proof enough. Wherever IS is, the world fights them and bombs the hell out of them because of their danger, meanwhile they send a few Burundians as cannon-fodder for shabaab.

I agree with that but I think that is honestly an indictment of the konfurian social fabric as a whole. We remember what they did where towns that were liberated from them had cartons of condoms and viagra left behind by kebaab. How can you have such people be part of your communities? Just in pure numbers Al kabaab has anywhere from 7-8 k soldiers to 15-20 k according to some estimates. Daacish in PL had 500 soldiers as of 2024.
Al kabaab has a more effective overall organization, they have spies all over the country, money and certain more equipment.
