Diaspora Syrians moving en masses backhome (200k back already)

anyway the ones in europe shouldn’t go back they have bolstered the muslim population and i doubt we will have another 10 million muslims flooding in europe

Even if AS were crushed by next administration Somalis wouldn’t go back. I feel they’re too comfortable.
Diaspora should not come back we instead the should continue to stimulate the Somali economy through remittance. That would be far better help then bringing high skilled service that most can't afford. The only exception would be if the person returning was industrious and had an idea involving a factory that creates a product from a resource Somalia has.

Even now I think that the diaspora need to get in on the ground floor of crude oil refineries in Somalia once the oil deposits are proven.

Not even balkan or EE folks are going back, what makes one think we are going back ?

70% of Balkans returned , 1.2 million refugees returned from the war in 1990s out of the 2 million that fled.

Remittances has been diminishing in importance due the return of diaspora and the increase of domestic economy as a result of new investments.

''However experts acknowledged that the role of MTO in the economy has been declining since 2012 due to the return of many Somali Diasporas , and increase in the production of the domestic economy as result of new investments from both foreign investors and Somalis.''

Remittances only became a lifeline when Somalia was cut off from investments , trade and the UN/US sanctioned the crap out of it's businesses and restricted its financial resources . For example the UN security council only started to partially lift financial sactions in 2012 right when you started to see it declining and in 2015 it started to make up less of the economy going from between 25% and 45% to 2.16% what it is now.

While still vital, remittances might now serve as supplementary income rather than a core economic driver, especially as diaspora members return and contribute directly.

The diaspora actually do major stuff like rebuilding the educational institutions and health care sector.

I suppose I’ve overestimated remittance.

Those are Syrians in UNCR refugee camps or IDPS into neighboring countries returning.

200k is not a lot when you compare it to the fact that 14 milllion Syrians fled, 7.2 million of them are internally displaced in IDPS. But it's a beginning.

It's not really that much different than how many Somalis have returned in recent years and many were just displaced people from southern Somalia. The second highest wave of returnee numbers were between 2015-2018.

Almost half of Somalis who fled actually returned in total since the 1990s, the largest being in the early 2000s.

Somalia has experienced 3 large waves of refugee returns, following return of stability and economic oppurtunities. After this the next wave of returnees are probably going to follow the growth in economy.

Most Somalis didn't flee Somalia. They just remained in Somali regions. Whereas others returned to rebuild their lives and help improve the security and governance in certain regions.

The Somali western diaspora is a loud meme. They think they're greater in number than they really are (by a wide margin) and non-Somalis have a similar misconception. I remember a Sudanese friend being like "Who's even left in your country?! You're all outside of it! I meet so many Somalis!" she didn't realize that at that moment there were under 100K Somalis in the UAE, if I recall correctly.

I actually got bored around then when I was like 18 and did some research looking into census data across the West, Middle-East and the Horn and found the overall diaspora back then was like 1% of the Somali global population, if not less, and that more than half of that lived in Yemen rather than the West.

There is no place like Home. I joke everyday on my way out to work that Trump should deport my ass back to Xamar.

Nothing but khayr would come my way and I am certain I will be back to praying five times a day at the mosque like I used to. That would complete the circle for me. Really a good ending of my journey from being a nomad with humble background, then educated and Moneyed in USA and finally back to his humble origins and be happy again.
