Djibouti secures Ogaden Oil Pipeline Deal

Obviously Djibouti was going to secure the deal, that port is the most developed in the entire horn. Either way, I'd rather my fellow Somalis in Djibouti eat good than Habeshas in Eritrea.
They knew they never had a shot but still allowed themselves to be used as leverage against fellow somalis out of pure xaasidnimo. Ethiopia probably tried to use both berbera and mombasa but the former doesn't have the required infrastructure and the latter option isn't viable economically.
Hope our negotiators stood their ground and called their bluff

+ china is the one extracting the oil and they favor djibouti

So posturing ourselves to gain investment that would create 1000s of jobs for our youths is xaasidnimo, but when Djibouti does the same it's all ok?

Btw, most of the xaasidnimo came from the Nabar iyo Naxdin camp. Time and time again they would deride investment in SL (DP world deal), yet wouldn't hesitate to bootyclap for Eritrean development. They are the same people who even baulked over the self-funded development of Garacad over Hobyo.

Besides, I don't think it's right to sleep over Berbera port. We are blessed with our strategic location, and Insha'Allah I hope we can use that advantage to capture a significant % of Ethiopia's imports & exports.

It is quicker Addis Ababa to Djibouti. There is no need for Berbera. It comes third after Djibouti and Assab.

True, but Ethiopia is willing to diversify their options (not to lay all their eggs in one basket), hence their recent activities in SL, Kenya & Eritrea.

SL had 0 shot to get it done tho, the deal was 90% done. They were being used to diminish Djiboutis profits but I doubt it worked.

If the fgs allows all anarchists and secessionists to make whatever deals they want, what's the incentive to cooperate with the central government?

There is a good chance there is plenty of oil in mudug and bari regions. Somalis better wake up while the world still uses oil.

Read my earlier post:

Still, It doesn't hurt to always try, try again. If SL never took the initiative to gain FDI, then no way would they have secured the half-billion dollar deal from DP World.

You seriously think the so-called FGS (one bedroom villa government) can be compared to Somaliland?! SL is not a federal state of the FGS, it is a defacto independent nation that controls her own affairs. In addition, Somaliland existed long before the foundation of the FGS. And most importantly, Muuse Biixi's jurisdiction extends from Loyada (Djibouti border) to Tukaraq, whereas Formaggio can't even consolidate Mogadishu.
