Ethiopia is a safe country. Only some elite Ethiopians (journalists, outspoken public figures/academics etc) who are targeted by the Ethiopian government get their asylum claims accepted, not average joes.

This is why Ethiopians in the West tend to be of a higher caliber, especially in America.

Not really. The Ethi community in the USA came from all sorts. During the Mengstu regime they were usually unskilled and had menial jobs. They were just like any other asylum seaker.
