I was shocked when they one day came with 450$ bill

This is why some somali families turn off their fridge so it doesn't pile up the electricity bill

Usually, they would avoid buying cold stuff, in order to limit the cost of the fridge. Electricity is mainly done by 1 company. No wonder it costs so high.

People would even take out the wires of lamps of the road for electricity, I have seen it myself, the reason being as these electrical companies exploit the people

the big problem in my opinion electricty shouldn't be owned by a private company the government should own it otherwise they will take advantage of the poor people

even garbage and disposal of it the government don't control it its a private company that take care of it and they charge 50$ a month to take your trash

I subscribe to this lady and her hoyo channel. They break down how much they've saved up by switching to solar power.

@Shimbiris You are right about it not being cheap and accessible to the poor. They must have been able to afford the installation price because they are diaspora.
They are diaspora and aren't representative of the average Somali family. People coming from the West and living like Kings and Queens in a society where the majority of the people are destitute doesn't sit right with me.

Are they supposed to be destitute too? I get if you think they should try to spread the wealth around and uplift the local people. And they should. My family certainly did where my pops would even give away entire fully built homes and patches of land to local people and anyone could come by our place and be given free running water to drink and shower with as well as whatever food we could spare. But there's nothing wrong with trying to live well if you can.

I didn't imply, nor suggest, that they should be destitute. I am also not blaming them for choosing to live in Somalia, its their life and their choice to do so. All I'm saying is that in Somalia, a majority of the locals are dirt poor, while the well-off are normally diaspora. That societal structure, in and of itself, does not sit right with me.

I feel somewhat the same too. It's a little sad as well that both business and politics are being somewhat dominated in many cases by returning diasporans. The folks who had no choice but to stay and went through the most hell for the last 30 years now have to put up with being second to someone who spent the majority of those years cozying it up in England. Injustice, wallahi.

Yes exactly. Alot of those who go back to Somalia to stunt on these locals spent years hoarding their money, living and raising their children in poor, run-down neighbourhoods in order to afford those homes. It is also one of the reasons why the price of land and homes have skyrocketed in the past few years in Somalia.

Many who have made the West their home and have invested there aren't the ones running back to Somalia.

That is exactly it. It isn't fair, but who cares, right? Money talks everywhere, especially in Somalia. Allah says that He answers the dua'as of those who have been oppressed. Allahu aclaam, it may be that one of the reasons why Somalia has yet to see harmony and peace after 30 years is because of the level of dulmi, oppression and injustice that the locals have faced. Its too much. Until we do right by others, namely the poor, the displaced, the needy and the orphaned, Somalia, I believe, will never see peace.
