Does light skin privilege exist in somalia?

Historically you are discriminated against if you're not ethnically Somali nor part of the main clans/landheree. Good luck running for office if you are a part of a minority group (oromo, cadcad barawani, bantu etc)

Skin bleaching is a new phenomenon tho. I blame Bollywood and Turkish dramas broadcasted in Somalia.

However you will not earn higher positions of power in a Somali government based on your skin colour or close proximity to whiteness.

Skin color is irrelevant in Somalia, the most black dhuxul Somali from a higher tribe looks down on the lightest skinned lower marginalized tribe

One of the rare places on earth this happens by the way, usually the opposite

I don’t think light skin privilege exists in most of Africa. I think it’s a real issue in the Americans and Asia .

there is colourism in Somalia just like anywhere else in the world, so yeah you'd probably have some privilege.

anyway these divesting chicks need a new hobby than reviving worn out topics.

No. Colorism is a relatively new issue in our community and does not extend into politics and tribalism.

"The rotten mango for the darker person and the fresh mango for the lighter one"
Colorism has always been in Somalia.

In truth, Yes.

There is a famous somali proverbs

Cadaan qurux kama qatana (Fair colour is never devoid of beauty)
Doqon iyo habeen baa madaw (only a fool and night are black)

Nigga what? :what1:

Never heard that quote before. I've heard "doqon iyo habeen baa madow" though. Probably recently invented quotes.

Growing up, I have seen many mothers bring their light skin kids outside while running errands during the winter. They show them off. However, during the summer, they were not with them. The mothers were shielding them from the burning sun.

However, their dark kids were never outside with them. It was like they were ashamed of them. Weey qariyeen.

Big difference in my family. All the children, light and dark, got to out with the parents on errands at all seasons. We were all treated equally.

Everyone knows light skin kids are more favoured by their mothers in the community. Their light kids are their favourite sons and daughters. Anyone who disputes this is a liar.

as i lightskin somali I agree
lmao at abdi gaal saying that they hide their dark child, that is sooo fake and untrue
but being lightskin comes with alot of cons aswell

As someone who is lighter skinned in winter and medium skinned in Summer… one thing I can say is that I have outright had Abdi’s say they prefer Lighter skinned Xalimos. Akhas I want to vomit at the self hating coonery in recanting.

colorism is a disease seen throughout Africa that’s a result of globalism and outside non black cultures soft power influence through media.

This is something the Somali government and every African gov should be battling… to remove as much outside influence as possible like China.
