Hispanic isn't an ethnicity, more like a cultural/region of origin. The US census asks if you're hispanic or non-hispanic along with being white or black. It would be more accurate if they asked mullato (white and black mix), mestizo (white and amerindian mix), biracial, etc. but they don't want to for some reason.
