Shirib was a war dance practiced by abgaal that was turned into a traditional dance. They originally had spears called “warran” and a shield called a “gaashaan”. The history of the shirib is extremely fascinating. Its also a major component at an old festival called “istunka” which was held annually in afgoye. It also has its own form of poetry

its a warrior dance intended to intimidate and scare the opposition.

every tribe and clan has its own special dance and customs. Its what makes us diverse. Imagine if we all had one culture, how boring :hova:

Somalia, like virtually every country on earth, has regional cultural differences. That dance still falls under Somali culture at the end of day. Even something like Niiko is part of southern Somali culture even though its not really explicitly ethnic Somali.

Do Arab countries line up their people to do their traditional dances for Somali delegations at the airport?

No, so why not just line up some soldiers in nicely decorated uniforms instead? A far more dignified welcome that shows class. There is something very demeaning about grow men dancing in the sun for some ajanabis regardless of the cultural dance. I think that we’re above entertaining foreign officials in this manner.

Couldn’t care less about some random iraqi presenter and his dirty opinion. This botched haka needs to stop tho when it comes to greeting foreign dignitaries. Military should suffice.

Last time some ladies were twerking on the streets to welcome foreign dignity, Was it an Ethiopian or Turkish delegation can't really remember.. Theyre always doing this shrib dance and twerking / niiko.. This can't be Somali culture.

Beating a dead horse here, London is closer to Düsseldorf than Galkacyo (southern most city in PL) is to Xamar. There is variety, and major differences in social norms and dhaqan amongst the various nations within the Somali landmass. They have their own culture and norms and we have ours.
