Then why her? Aren't there more Somalis who goes to university in Canada or what?

There are other somali women doctors but I suppose no one put themselves out their like her. I know one who graduated before as well not to mention others.

The Canadian media is particular condescending and mean to somalis so they probably ran with this pathetic story and now it's gone international. I mean several members of my family are doctors for goodness sake it isn't rare or unique at all.

who cares- y werent u celebrated

isnt this woman a surgeon- thats a male dominated field nd i would go out on a limb nd say shes the only female
somali one in canada

She definitely isn't. Not by a long shot.

See this is what I mean mean, it's a slap in the face to other somali doctors.

nucleus doesnt understand context

this surgeon was a refugee that came to canada as a preteen

she wants her to be compared to ppl like her who were born in canada

Just no! I know someone with only slightly different circumstances who is about 12-15 years older than me who graduated and practices as a doctor. I know a couple others who were doctors before who started back from scratch etc etc... She isn't the first if she was it would still be embarassing she was boasting about being in undergrad! Just wtf?

Because what other ethnic group is being celebrated for having a doctor. It's a vocation not a Nobel prize, she isn't even the first somali women doctor educated in Canada.

I've had to hear her calcaal about being a doctor for nigh on a decade, wtf? She disgust me and she's lowering the already low rep somali women have. She's a sharmuta because those women tend to be.

Glad it wasn't just me. I thought she came across as an attention seeker and a brag. Peddling to appeal to ajanabis.

Canada's first Somali doctor kulaha
Her achievement as a doctor is commendable put all this attention whooring is unnecessary.

That explains a lot. I don't understand why people hate on her. Even if she was celebrated a lot, I would rather have her have exposure than other types of Somalis.. I guess their parents compared them to her when growing up xD explains why they are pissed

Is she really the first Somali doctor in Canada?

Definitely not, I'm not going to post names of ordinary people I know, but I'm sure there were plenty of others that I do not know of.

This chick was bragging about being in undergrad and taking pre-med courses. It's graet that she's overcome.... Whatever she overcome... I dunno being somali? Smh

But she doesn't need to drag others down to boost herself up. It's really very insulting. She reminds me of that Edna Aden chick who also makes false claims.

:comeon:

You can't be serious? I was only a small child when I figured out the demeaning tone to which she was being praised. I do fine for myself and my family have no clue about this chick.

You don't live in Canada so you don't have to live with the second hand embarrassment. :mjcry:

I understand what you mean it does come across as very demeaning/degrading and condescending towards Somalis her story and how she is being praised.

Like I said these types of egotistical individualists are preyed upon by somali peoples detractors.

Would you rather have an undergrad who gets on the media a lot, or a bunch of skinnies who drinks booze, smokes weed and makes rap songs about killing people at shisha lounges?
