Canada. I don't live in Toronto so my experience is with Somalis in the other cities and Alberta suburbs. But yeah one thing I noticed with this miskeen kids their parents were very involved in their education and everything. Even their siblings were. Shit its that bad? I feel like back in the day we had more of a community the younger kids had older kids who were studious to look up too. Now the community is dead. Though I'd say my parents and Siblings are still strict with education. I still get told to go study ... And so are my Aunts/uncles their kids have good degrees and salaries.

Community is dead now sxb, we will throw all sorts of free events for these kids and nobody will show up. It’s because the things we were interested in no longer interests them. For example, If you throw a free basketball tournament and say the winners get a free trip to play in another tournament, I promise you like 25 kids will show up out of the thousands.
Asians and even other Africans (excluding South Sudanese & Eritreans) are mostly economic migrants.
Outside the first wave of educated urbanites in the late 80s and early 90s, most Somali immigrants were illiterates from refugee camps. And not even the urban kind, but straight-up tuulo kind.

The number of businesses now are probably in the thousands and with more improved diversification, planning and funding.
Although no additional studies have been made since then. We can actually roughly calculate the purchasing power and median income of Somalis based on how much remittances they send to Somalia each year. Somalis in America send 500 million each year out of the 1.6 billion globally as it's recorded in 2021 by the world bank and remitance services they use.
The average Somali in America would have to send $8,333 of each per year to Somalia. 4/5 per household equals 13.333 households.
They would have to have 70K-90k household media income with a purchasing power of 2.3 billion annually. And a disposable income of 60.000 USD
There is no other way they can afford to send that much money to Somalia otherwise. Was planning to make a thread on this alongside the economic growth estimation of Somalia that has reduced remittances to 2.6% of the economy.
They of all diaspora groups sent nearly half of all global diaspora remittances. They have been an incredible vital community.
Their median household income levels under reported when you take into account 2 separate facts, that they are employed sometimes informally and that a portion of their income goes to remittances they send abroad.

I believe their economic capacity is higher because they exist in a more capitalist free market economy, than say mainland European Somalis.
It's insane for people to compare Somalis to African Americans. African Americans have a unique history and struggle that impedes them, but also because they are a heterogeneous social group that is not exactly bounded by kinship ties, religion or culture but a unique historical experience, that's why they tend to lack the group economic activity and 90% are employed by white Americans. Wealth just leaves their community instead retaining it.
