Om going for mechanical engineering specializing in renewable energy.

Solar and wind power is highly underrated in Somalia. Even simple solar panels with provide essentially free hot water, and solarcell and wind farms will provide alot of energy :ehh: Got alot of leg room as a mechanical engineer, and renewable future is the future so I'll always find work

:denzelnigga:

Great choice. A word of advice you'll learn a lot of theory when studying engineering at school, make sure you also get to learn the technical aspects as well. You might have to do this outside of your engineering curriculum.

If you can make your own device powered with renewable energy by the time you graduate you'll do great.

Same here bro, I want to do a masters in water engineering and renewable resources. I want to make sure there is no drought or famine in Somalia ever again. See you on the other side.:friendhug:

These things are used for heating water, and with the strong sun in Somalia these can easily turn into a net positive investment within a year. Don't need to put them slanted either, just lay them on a flat roof.

And with our vast empty land setting up a few solarcell farms and wind farms will be easy and efficient.

So much to work with :ahh:

And with the global warming projections we might win big time

Abubu, your expertise will be needed as the trees in the south are being cut callously to be turned into charcoal and shipped to the middle east. Desertification and soil erosion are major plagues in the south now. Our generation will be dead soon before we see any meaningful change in the country we call home.

Can you interpret the spoiler alert maps? I may be reading them wrong. They look hopeful when it comes to draught/precipitation. I don't trust my own judgment since nothing good has happened to Somalia .

Basically global warming will better the situation in Somalia by every measure like rainfall, chance of drought, soil moisture etc. So much so that the rivers in Somalia are too small so there will be huge overflowing with water.

It's comical that global warming will be good for us, but it's the truth.

There are only a few countries in the world with high wind speed and Somalia is one of them :rejoice::rejoice::rejoice:

Amazing how one's good luck can be someone else's bad luck. That is why I didn't trust my interpretation and thought I was wrong to think this is Plus for Somalia.

Good luck with you studies. I have technical background and can install anything with a manual and maintain them. I will be making good money likely from any high tech project in Somalia working as Field Tech or Field Engineer. I have few years of work to do here and rack up some credit for early retirement. Then I will have my own technical business back home inshallah. That and Teach for free in my spare time. Once I have a source of basic income, I can venture and do more things without relying on someone else. I get depressed when my pocket is empty.

Great choice, there is a few we brought over to Hobyo and the entire region from China

Renewable energy and agricultural specialist will be the back bone, followed closely by civil-engineering.

That's Food/Water/Energy/Home and Infrastructure to facilitate trade, the foundations we need.

The wind aspect is ridiculous back home, but it takes a lot of investment, someone with contacts in China.

China is actually the country pushing the limit on solar power technology :ehh: The quality will continue rising and the pricing going down, so importing then en masse to Somalia would be smart.

@LarryThePuntite future business venture to cooperate on?:mjpls:

My goal would be to get a solar panel for every home and water tank in Somalia. But of course you'd need a water tank first. This would be especially great for those who live in areas where electricity is sparse.

The best way to hack that and cut costs from the get go is to open a solar school.

Small trade school that is super niche focused on Solar. This way you can work backwards and become an influencer.

Opening a solar school first can help you get certified techs and build trust with the government.

Plus its super disruptive and you can kawaal all the lonewolf solar dudes by having the best techs in Somalia.

Have you been to Hobyo? Population must have grown and building boomed I am sure. I have Old ties to the town, two generations back but nothing recent. My father and his siblings were born in Muqdisho so the ties to the town was dead with these births in Xamar. I don't recall our family maintaining any connections there except the occasional visits from people we considered "Reer Mudug" .

:mjlol:

It is on my list of places to check for possible settlement if people are receptive or the environment.

You're a Hobyoian by blood ?:ooh: :friendhug:

My grandparents moved to Mogadishu too before my father was born, but we still have good contact with our family in Hobyo and Mogadishu.

@Burhan

I have been back several times, the population is growing very fast each time I go back, there is a lot of development kicked off recently.

There is this old saying 'that you don't get hungry in Hobyo' from our grandfathers, I used to laugh at this until I went, it's weird, crazy but legit, there is something about the air, environment that literally wipes out your craving for food and satiates you, would have a single meal the entire day and feel strong.

We need a lot of civil engineers too. These should specialize in city planning(sewage systems, water and gas piping etc..) and water resources. We need ways to harvest more rain water, and store the rain water we got for future use. If we had 100 of each, wallahi, we could achieve so much.

If it is by blood, then my connections are even more saxib. I just wonder what the small town looks like given its fame. Hope your hugs are given due to the town connection and not clan ties :russ: Cousins through township then :friendhug:

Rest assured I have no clan loyalty and trust every decent Somali be they female or male.
