If there was legitimate Somali central government like under kacaan than the FGS word would be respected and trustworthy. internationally, We wouldn't be having this discussion over territorial integrity. I noticed you guys keep on moving the goalposts. First it was "the base will never be built", now its the "base will never be finished". FWIW, xaasidnimo of this scale ain't a good look, just makes you guys look petty.

Construction will take about about a year and half or so since it just started in February. This is the facts, believe what you like.

DP World won't be happy that Ethiopia, who is their business partner in Berbera, filled in the vacuum left by DP world in Djibouti. Ethiopia wasn't pleased when UAE announced to build a military facility in Assab, Eritrea. The lease of the base will keep the anti-Ethiopia government in Asmara alive.

It is for the best. I am sure SL gov and Dahabshiil can come up with the $450 million the Ayrabs ay noogu faanayaan. And best of all 100% of stakes will be owned by us.

It was like you said in your earlier assessment, Ethiopia is hungry and on the move with aggressive foreign policy. They aren't satisfied with having stake in just one port, they want unfettered access to all the major red sea ports, Berbera being just one piece of their master plan for Ethiopia being the undisputed economic giant of horn.

Cumar is right Ethiopia has its eyes set on many ports. Berbera is situated on the red sea and is close somewhat to Ethiopia though Djibouti with the train link and Port is at advantage and the fact that they are independent.

With Djibouti taking control of their Doraleh container and kicking out of DP World, Djibouti looks even more lucrative.

Djibouti makes sense due to history, distance, location, legality and infrastructure.

Berbera will fill a fair share and Ethiopia will use it like they have done before but it will not their number 1 port where they vacate Djibouti for Berbera which would be foolishly insane thing to do.

The Emiratis wanted Ethiopia as a gurantor and Ethiopia will be content with their 19% share in Berbera without actually doing much.
