It seems Addis is persistent in trying to acquire a navy. HSMs best accomplishment was rejecting the Wagner deal and Chinese investment. We’ve postured ourselves politically to the US which is only good in a situation like this Washington doesn’t want Russia to expand its influence especially in terms of navy. They’ve been stuck tryna get a naval base in Sudan for almost a decade now. Not only that I’d say 90% of Ethiopian military imports come from Russia, especially their airforce they have 4- su30 fighters with a future 6 currently in order. Plus 14 other su 27 fighters (different type). If we play the long term game we could be a strategic asset instead of a burden, and as Ethiopia recalibrates its regional alliance east. It only seems to be to our benefit. It’s oddly reminiscent of the late 1960s.

They need to keep the nationalistic greater ethiopia hype to quell the tribal bloodthirst. Notice at the peak of the MOU it kinda untied all non somali groups into one. Despite their differences, they all want more land.

Facism is a good tool to silence the crys of coups and government overthrow. He’s making these moves to keep in power and make β€œprogress” despite the economy and militias going nuts.
