Dahmi Sugule Mechometus Dhu Kidsh
One of the names for hedgehog in Somali is xiddig which means star while in Xamar it is called kuulay cali banjar. Does anyone know the origin for this name or what the exact meaning is? I have looked through multiple dictionaries to no avail.
My butcher has told me that it is a name given to it by children and it has an accompanying song. This songs seems to vary depending on where I look.
Another thing of note is the saying "Habar Kuuley uu sheeg, aniga ha ee sheegin" which is used to dismiss a statement that is seen as ridiculous or unbelievable. Habar Kuulay is also used to describe an incompetent person.
Are these relations sheer coincidence or is there a relation?
I have also seen a reoccurring joke in Somali language spaces as seen below. I assume that it is a joke but I have issues with sarcasm and the likes so I am currently awaiting a peer review from my relatives.
